What's a colophon?
An old bookmaking tradition: a short note at the back of a book where the printer listed the tools they used: the typeface, the paper, the press. This is the website version: not what's on the site, but how the site itself was built.

How this site is made
- Astro 6, static-generated. Zero JS framework runtime.
- Hand-written SCSS. Tokens in
main.scss, dark mode indark.scss. - MDX for posts that need components, plain Markdown otherwise.
- DM Sans for body, system mono for UI labels.
- View Transitions for SPA-like navigation, with a thin progress bar to mark the page change.
- Shaka Player lazy-loaded for the music and video players. Never shipped unless you press play.
- The cat below is a Lottie animation, painted to a canvas by a WebAssembly renderer. The player module and its wasm are only fetched once this easter egg is unlocked.
- GitHub Pages behind Cloudflare. Deploys on push to
main, with the CDN cache purged on the way out.
The whole thing is built so that almost nothing runs in your browser unless you ask it to.
